White Lines

by Whitney Stacey

Driving driving driving
White lines keep my focus
Hard to see through these eyes
Please can I have yours
They’ve seen less
Less of him
Less of me
Just less

Driving driving driving
Vision eroded by sadness
Everything covered in tears
White lines have disappeared
Now replaced with grey blur
I can’t see
I can’t stop

Feels like I’m going too fast
For everything
To catch up
But it does

I get pulled over
A man in uniform sidles over
Says I’m driving too slow
He sees my tears
“Ma’am are you ok?”
I lie
And drive off

Forgot my glasses
That doesn’t help this blur
I have to stop visiting
Seeing this sickness
It puts lines on my face
White lines
Like the road
Long and hard
And never ending
