Mechanical Birds

by Lech Blaine

In this age of MTV

and global obesity,

who will think of the children?

Disclosure: I am a recovering

fat child. Tragically, my first

handjob was delayed until

the age of fourteen.

At least I felt alive. In my day,

we knew what reality looked like.

Our parents smoked

electronic cigarettes

while we fed metal seeds

to the mechanical birds.

We reserved the right

to reduce our caloric intakes.

We deserved our gastric belts

and the likeness of our replicas.

Holograms of dead

world leaders lectured

us on the importance of

environmentally friendly

disillusionment and we

nodded our heads yes.
